Legacy Firmware for Legacy A code (Digital) and B code (Analog) Radio modem Migrations

GE MDS point-to-multipoint product firmware upgrades are distributed as ASCII files with a ".S28" extension. These files use the Motorola S-record format.

The x710 Series radios do not have FTP or Telnet capabilities and must be configured using the console port in conjunction with GE Element Manager software. To connect to a x710 Radio's console port you'll need an RJ-11 to DB-9 Adaptor P/N: 03-3246A01. This allows the use of a Serial to USB converter to provide a PC serial port for device access.

MDS Element Manager Supported Devices

The MDS Element Manager is designed to be a standalone tool compatible with Microsoft Windows OS and supports individual GE MDS radios connected through a choice of interfaces - serial, DLINK, SSH, HTTP(S), etc., dependent on the capabilities of the attached device.

This is a replacement for a collection of unsupported engineering tools that have become obsolete over time. The Element Manager software was designed using Adobe Air which has since been sold to Harman a Samsung company. locating and installing this new product software on a Windows 10 machine is possible but also challenging and it will require system configuration settings that may not be possible on some enterprise restricted computers.
